The fascinating thing about seeing someone seeing a baby up close is the way people's eyes travel to the hands and feet of the baby. Everyone is tuned in to this attraction whenever a baby is close bye. It gets even more interesting when the baby flexes those hands and fingers and moves the feet around. We are drawn to them like moths to a flame. No questions asked. Is there a rational explanation? Perhaps, perahps not.
Explanations not-withstanding, the fascination is there and some clever people managed to cash in on it. There are several companies serving this peculiar, but adorable compulsion.
One of the things they do is to etch the inkprints of the baby's hands and/or feet on a plaque. When the plaque is ready, they attach it to a frame. As a parent or as someone presenting this kind of gift to a new set of parents, there are different sizes of plaques and frames; not to mention the different designs one can choose from or even create. You can choose to have a frame made specifically for hanging on a wall. Anoher frame is simply for placing on a table or on top of the fireplace. You can opt for larger sized plaques so as to have the baby's prints displayed in different ways. If you want something more traditional, you can just go with the standard plaque. Another way of presenting the plaque is to include the prints of the child's siblings. Perhaps the most poignant presentation is the prints of the baby between the prints of the parents etched on the plaque. Whichever you choose, the prints on the plaque will serve to bring back pleasnt, mesmerizing memories of those little hands and feet. They will be a wonderful conversational piece. Talking about one's offspring is, after all, a favourite topic of all parents.
One other way of preserving those tiny hands and feet for posterity is by placing them in a moulding gel. Taking the impressions of the infant's extremities takes less than seconds to do. When the impressions are complete, the jelly-like mould is then used to create casts of the hands and feet of your baby. The casts can be made from almost any material.
As any parent would say, spare no expense for that tiny, helpless child. Maybe its because we just need to remember...? To read more articles by Tony Robinson, check out http://about-foods.com.
